Nation First is establishing a head office in Calgary, Alberta as the international head quarters for projects in manufacturing, hydrogen, waste to energy and geothermal. While head quartered in Calgary our teams will be supporting projects internationally. We are looking for good people who are able to locate to Alberta, while maintaining influence in their country of origin.

IT Project Manager for Global projects

Nation First is establishing a head office in Calgary, Alberta Canada, that will support global projects through a decentralized shared service model.

As such we are looking for an IT Manager who can work across multiple cultures and is able to build local technical teams to support the various subsidiaries of Nation First. The role is based in Calgary, Alberta Canada and will require travel to regional offices from time to time.

We are looking for an IT Manager to be responsible and accountable for the smooth running of our computer systems within the limits of requirements, specifications, costs and timelines. You will supervise the implementation and maintenance of our company’s computing needs. You will be responsible for preventing unauthorized access to our data and responding to privacy breaches.

While you are not expected to be an expert in all technical areas you should be able to speak confidential with technical people and recruit the necessary technical expertise where required. You will be expected to be fluent in English and Afrikaans as many of our companies are in Southern Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementing and managing IT systems with specific expertise in implementing and supporting Office 365 and SharePoint.
  • Controlling and evaluating IT and electronic data operations
  • Managing IT staff and building a strong team of experts across all our companies
  • Designing and implementing safety measures and controls
  • Monitoring network activity to identify vulnerable points
  • Acting on privacy breaches and malware threats
  • Plan, organize, control and evaluate IT and electronic data operations for each new company / project
  • Manage IT staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance.
  • Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures
  • Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
  • Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy
  • Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time
  • Audit systems and assess their outcomes
  • Preserve assets, information security and control structures
  • Handle annual budget and ensure cost effectiveness
  • Design and implement safety measures and data recovery plans
  • Install, configure and upgrade security software
  • Secure networks through firewalls, password protection and other systems
  • Inspect hardware for vulnerable points of access
  • Monitor network activity to identify issues early and communicate them to IT teams
  • Act on privacy breaches and malware threats
  • Draft policies and guidelines

Requirements and skills

  • Proven IT experience and ability to coach, mentor and lead a team
  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
  • Expertise in Office 365 and SharePoint
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support remote teams in both English and Afrikaans
  • Ability to manage personnel.

Manufacturing Industry Manager

Nation First is establishing a head office in Calgary, Alberta Canada, that will support various manufacturing projects in Canada and Southern Africa.

As such we are looking for a seasoned expert in manufacturing who can review, inspect and advise our executive team regarding the efficiency of our various manufacturing plants.  The candidate will need to be fluent in English and Afrikaans as they will be communicating with teams in Canada and South Africa. The role is based in Calgary, Alberta Canada with an emphasis on providing insights and advise to the executives in the head office.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect products for defects or assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes it takes to make a product right the first time.
  • Evaluate, monitor and ensure that processes, measuring systems and equipment are capable of doing what they’re supposed to do, every time.
  • Ensure the integrity of processes.
  • Coaching and advise to regional manufacturing managers with the purpose of improving quality and production.
  • Provide feedback to executive head office teams on the performance of regional manufacturing plants, challenges, opportunities and threats.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements and relevant capital investments.
  • Facilitate clear and regular communication and reporting between the head office and regional manufacturing plants.
  • Facilitate business development discussions to help grow the local businesses.

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience in manufacturing
  • Ability to coach and mentor teams from different cultures.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Afrikaans
